THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WOMEN

FEMALE HORMONES EXPLAINED: THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY

We women are wonderful cyclical beings – pre-menopause, we have the four phases of each month (menstrual, ovulation, follicular, luteal) as well as the stages of womanhood (childhood, adolescence, puberty, adulthood, maturity). Each of these phases are ruled by our intricate biology including our complex hormonal health.

Most women experience these cyclical phases and their challenges – so how come we can feel so alone when going through things like menopause and PMS?

We think it shouldn’t be that way. That’s why we’re committed to discovering how CBD for women works and providing products that align with the latest science. We’re also committed to nurturing a community – so whether you’re here to learn more about your unique biology as a woman or to seek CBD support, we’re here to guide you as much as we can.

Hormonal Wellness

A woman’s hormones naturally fluctuate during her life and serve a key role in bodily functions and general health. The female sex hormones can influence:

  • Sex drive
  • Body weight
  • Hair growth
  • Bone and muscle growth
  • Inflammatory response

Below is an overview of how they work in the body.

Remember when you started growing breasts or seeing some underarm fuzz? This comes down to estrogen – a category of hormones that powers the female transformation from girl into woman. And they’re also involved in several important aspects of the body, including:

  • Menstrual cycle
  • Sexual development
  • Heart health
  • Mood
  • Bone health
  • Skin

If an estrogen imbalance occurs, these aspects may become out of balance too. Estrogen levels naturally drop during menopause – causing a suite of symptoms which can create daily challenges for women.

Progesterone is produced in the ovaries, placenta and the adrenal glands and plays an important role in regulating menstrual cycles and preparing the female body for conception. Levels of progesterone increase during ovulation and while pregnant. If progesterone levels are low this can lead to skipped periods and difficulties during pregnancy and with conceiving.

Although men have much more of this sex hormone in their bodies (approximately 20 times more), women produce small amounts of testosterone in the adrenal glands and ovaries. In combination with other hormones, testosterone is an important part of maintaining some of our essential functions and supports:

  • Sex drive
  • Energy
  • Mood
  • Bone health

CBD and Hormones

The relationship between female hormones and CBD has to be researched further, but the emerging research is promising. Studies suggest that CBD may help with hormonal imbalances by altering hormonal secretion, cell receptor response, and the breakdown of hormones.
