CBD Winter Warmers

OUR FAVE CBD RECIPES TO GET INTO THE FESTIVE MOOD

It’s cozy season meaning it’s the perfect time to get cuddled up in your favorite sweaters and enjoy all the wonders of the holiday season. When we look back at some of our most treasured winter memories, these often include cooking with loved ones and spending time together in the kitchen. Don’t get us wrong – the holidays can be ripe with stress, sometimes becoming too overwhelming and tipping the scales for negativity instead. That’s why we wanted to share some of our favorite CBD-infused winter recipes to help you relax, make new memories in the kitchen, and enjoy with friends and family.

Cooking With CBD 101

Before we jump into all the fun, let’s back up and get into the basics. Cooking with CBD can unlock an exciting, creative way to enjoy cannabinoid therapy while also experimenting with flavors and recipes. If you already have some winter recipe favorites of your own, here’s how you can infuse these with CBD:

  • Homemade CBD Butter and Oil: For all the true homemade cooks out there, you can actually make your own CBD-infused butter and oils. You’ll need to find high-grade CBD flower and follow a cannabutter recipe like this one from Leafly. This is definitely the most labor-intensive but gives you the freedom to make your favorite cooking staples with CBD.
  • CBD-Infused Cooking Products: If you’re interested in cooking and baking CBD, it’s important to find a specialty CBD-infused cooking oil. Companies like Santa Cruz Medicinals offer CBD-infused tallow and avocado oil. These both tout high smoke points but you’ll always want to factor in that CBD has a smoke point of about 315 degrees Fahrenheit. Never go above this temperature or else you risk burning the CBD which will result in an undesirable flavor and lost potency.
  • Drizzling Your CBD Tinctures: Sometimes you just want to skip to the good part and we totally get it! You can take your favorite CBD tincture, like our Balance Everyday Tincture, and drizzle post-cooking for all the same yummy benefits as the other options above. Always take into account the other ingredients in your tincture and how that might impact the flavor profile of your dish.

Tip: Unflavored CBD tinctures will either be tasteless (think CBD isolate ones) or have that familiar earthy, herbaceous flavor found in hemp. Try pairing this with similar flavor profiles to highlight or incorporate into a rich, flavor-dense recipe to mask.

Looking for a delicious way to enjoy the cold winter evenings while luring yourself into deep, restorative sleep? We’ve got just the thing! Our CBD-infused tequila hot toddy does just the trick, lighting that internal fire while settling all those pesky to-dos swirling around in your head. Enjoy before bed so you get into the festive spirit while simultaneously battling the holiday stress and priming yourself for ridiculously dreamy sleep (we love a good multitasker!).

  • Cinnamon stick and whole cloves
  • Lemon wedge

Directions

  3. Stir well to make sure the honey melts.
  4. Add the cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and lemon wedge.
  5. Top with ½ to 1 dropper of our Dream Tincture for 15mg-30mg of CBD and a hint of cinnamon.

Tip: Replace the Dream Night Tincture with our Balance Everyday Tincture for a minty twist and daytime version.

We’re always looking for ways to incorporate healthy fats for supporting our hormones and what better way to indulge than brussel sprouts with thick-cut bacon? Our CBD-infused version makes a hearty yet light appetizer or side dish. Top with your favorite protein for a complete meal.

Ingredients:

  • 5 strips thick-cut sugar-free bacon diced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 lb brussel sprouts cut in half
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and roughly chopped
  • Press Pause Balance Everyday Tincture
  • Sea salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Place diced bacon in a large cast-iron skillet and bring the heat to medium-high.
  2. Allow the bacon to crisp below removing it with a slotted spoon, leaving the bacon fat in the pan.
  3. Maintain medium-high heat and add the brussel sprouts cut side down. Consider working in batches to ensure extra crispiness throughout.
  4. Increase the heat to high and check frequently to avoid burning.
  5. Season with sea salt and pepper then flip the brussel sprouts over once crispy on the bottom.
  6. Add chopped garlic, cook until fragrant (about a couple minutes), then add back the bacon.
  7. Remove from the heat and drizzle our Balance Everyday Tincture.
  8. Stir evenly and enjoy!

Tip: This recipe is naturally gluten-free. For a dairy-free version, opt for high-quality avocado oil or tallow for frying instead of butter.

Is it even the holidays if there’s no dessert?! Even though it’s the season to indulge, we all know that going off the rails with your diet can amplify holiday stress and knock you off balance. That’s why we’re sharing our lighter, low-carb, lower-sugar CBD-infused apple crisp. Put your feet up by the fire and warm up with this dreamy favorite.

Ingredients:

  • 6 apples peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 4 tbsp Potli CBD honey
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean powder or extract
  • 1 cup butter or ghee
  • Pork rinds
  • Sea salt
  • Heavy cream

Directions:

  1. Place pork rinds in a blender or food processor until a fine powder forms then set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 315 degrees.
  3. Add peeled apple slices, 3 tbsp Potli CBD honey, ½ tbsp cinnamon, ½ tbsp nutmeg, ½ tbsp vanilla, and 1 tbsp of pork rinds to a mixing bowl. Mix until the apple slices are evenly coated.
  4. Add the coated apple slices to a pie pan in an even layer.
  5. Melt butter or ghee until it’s liquid. Mix the butter or ghea with sea salt along with the remaining Potli CBD honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and pork rind powder.
  6. Mix until smooth then break the crisp mixture into pieces before adding to the top of the prepared apples.
  7. Bake for 45-60 minutes on the low rack of the oven at 315 degrees.
  8. Whip heavy cream while apple crisp is baking.
  9. Once the crisp is brown, remove from the oven and let cool.
  10. Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of Potli CBD honey.

Tip: If you don’t have access to Potli CBD honey, substitute the recipe with either honey or maple sugar. Add our 4 droppers of our Dream Night Tincture to the entire crisp once out of the oven and cool. With 4-6 servings in this recipe, that’ll equal about 15-30mg of CBD per serving. Pork rinds are a great zero-carb, gluten-free, high-protein option – if you’d like a pork-free version, substitute the pork rinds with gluten-free oats. For a dairy-free version, skip the heavy cream and butter and substitute coconut oil for the crisp.
