As the daughter of 2 parents who were raised by farmers and brought up in rural farming communities, I was always taught to have the upmost respect and appreciation for Americas Farmers. There are many reasons why I entered the wild wild west of CBD and a big reason of that was knowing that provided great opportunity to revive rural America with the endless opportunities of growing hemp. Not just for the health benefits of CBD, but for the expansive opportunity that the hemp plant provides in building, manufacturing, clothing and so much more.
As a young girl, I can remember our endless road trips to my grandparents farms. As I peered out the windows and played count the cow games with my younger sister and saw one desolated farm after the other, I always felt sad for these farmers in what appeared to be such a hard life- And that it was, a HARD LIFE. I remember the calluses on both my grandfathers hands as they held mine as a young girl, I can remember seeing my Grandfather stand in the field with his head down with tears running down his face after his whole years crop was destroyed by a hail storm and I remember quietly tip toeing around my Grandfather as he often fell asleep nearly standing up after a day of hard work during those hot summer days.
Thomas Jefferson said that “Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute to real wealth, good morals and happiness.” I think he was onto something. As a child, those summer days spent on my Grandparents farms were my fondest memories. Life was simple and my imagination ran wild. The sadness I felt on my long drives, quickly dissipated to the most genuine and simple joy. I often wished the city life I lived and breathed could be replaced with life on a farm. You see, farming is not just a job, it’s a way of life. One doesn’t choose to farm as so often, it runs thick in your bloodline. Or, maybe just maybe, the farmers of America recognize that farming is the only pathway to feeding the future?
As we close out 2018, we celebrated a win for the American Farmer as the Farm Bill was passed to free hemp from federal regulation and allows hemp to be legally cultivated across the United States. This does incredible things for not only farmers, but opens up endless opportunity to sponsored research on the benefits of CBD and removes stigma from the industry.
For those of us who grew up playing with tractors, today, we rejoice. Today, we recognize these farms are more than just dirt – Afterall, to a farmer, it’s potential. Beyond that, It’ a pathway to healing for so many who are searching for a greater path to wellness.
Cheers, America. This one, you got right!
