It was just the other day when I had sat my two children, ages 2 and 4, down with a bunch of art supplies. I set them up with crayons and vibrant construction paper hoping to get a solid thirty minutes to finish my proposal for work. Already overwhelmed with balancing my kids with my career, marriage, and social life, I didn’t realize how much pressure I was putting on myself and the entitlement of this thirty minutes.
Nestled in the other room working diligently on my proposal, the mischievous laughter of both my children began elevating throughout my home. I quickly jotted down my current thoughts and went into the dining room to check on them. My eyes widened with bewilderment as I witnessed my kids drawing all over my pristine, eggshell walls with their crayons! The initial panic urged me to scold them while I felt an overwhelming feeling of anxiety due to the additional stress impeding on my proposal.
When life starts spinning wildly out of control, it’s important to press pause and face your current situation with positivity. I knew that scolding the kids and letting the initial panic take over wouldn’t help me get my proposal done any faster. I bravely took a deep breath, smiled, and embraced the moment in order to recognize how lucky I am to have two beautiful, healthy children. I had both of them pose with their masterpieces for a quick photo session before returning them to their designated drawing areas.
